Hermes Companion was designed from the first line of code with a strict architectural guarantee: we operate no servers, collect no personal data, and track no users.
Data Collection & Use
All data processed by Hermes Companion remains strictly on your personal devices and inside your personal Apple ID iCloud sandbox.
Purpose: The app utilizes Apple CoreLocation (GPS, cell-tower significant changes, and dynamic perimeter geofences) to provide your local Hermes AI agent with situational context (e.g., whether you are at Home, at Work, or In Transit).
Storage: Coordinates are written directly to your private iCloud container (iCloud~com~hermes~HermesCompanion). They are never transmitted to the developers or third-party servers.
Purpose: With your explicit consent, the app reads Sleep Analysis, step counts, resting heart rate, and workout sessions to generate recovery summaries for your local AI companion.
Strict Boundary: In accordance with Apple Developer guidelines, your HealthKit data is never used for marketing or advertising, never shared with third parties, and never leaves your Apple ID.
Purpose: Physical activity classification (stationary, walking, running, cycling, automotive) is evaluated on-device solely to gate GPS persistence, preventing battery drain and eliminating indoor location drift.
The application contains no Google Analytics, no advertising identifiers (IDFA), no tracking cookies, and no third-party telemetry SDKs. The software is 100% open-source under the MIT License and can be audited on GitHub.
Your Data, Your Custody
Because we do not operate a backend database, you maintain absolute sovereign ownership over your files.
Files are stored in Apple's iCloud Drive infrastructure, protected by your Apple ID credentials and Apple's security protocols.
The app maintains only the latest snapshot (latest_location.json and latest_health.json). Historical logs stay on your device unless you choose to preserve them.
Deleting the Hermes Companion app from your iPhone or removing files from your iCloud Drive directory permanently and irreversibly purges your telemetry.
Compliance & Questions
Children’s Privacy (COPPA):
Hermes Companion does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is transmitted to our servers, children's privacy is preserved by architecture.
Changes to This Policy:
If any aspect of data handling changes in future versions of the application, this document will be updated immediately with a revised effective date.
